The most common warning signs include: slipping out of gear or between gears, delayed response when you shift into drive or reverse, harsh or jerky shifting, grinding or whining noises, a burning smell, transmission fluid leaks (a bright red fluid under the vehicle), and a check engine light combined with any of the above. If your vehicle just won't move at all, that's also a strong indicator of a transmission problem. When in doubt, call us and describe what you're experiencing — we can usually give you a good idea of what you're dealing with.

Yes, it can be. The check engine light covers a wide range of issues, including transmission-related fault codes. If the light is on and you're also noticing shifting problems, slipping, or unusual behavior, there's a good chance the transmission is involved. A proper diagnosis with a scan tool will pull the codes and tell us exactly what's triggering the light. Don't ignore it — catching a transmission issue early is almost always less expensive than waiting.

Shuddering during shifts can be a transmission issue, but it can also be caused by things like worn motor mounts, a torque converter problem, or contaminated transmission fluid. It's worth having diagnosed before assuming the worst. In many cases, shuddering is caught early enough that the fix is relatively minor. Bring it in and we'll take a look.

A rebuild means the transmission is completely removed from the vehicle, disassembled, inspected, and put back together with new or reconditioned parts replacing anything that's worn or damaged. It's not always necessary — some issues are minor and can be addressed without a full rebuild. We'll tell you honestly whether a rebuild is warranted or whether a simpler repair is the right call. We don't recommend more work than what's actually needed.

It depends on the vehicle, the extent of the damage, and what replacement units are available and at what cost. A quality rebuild on a well-maintained vehicle is often a smart investment. In some cases, a remanufactured or quality used unit may be a better fit. We'll walk you through both options and the tradeoffs for your specific situation so you can make an informed decision.

Most rebuilds take several days to about a week depending on the transmission type, parts availability, and our current workload. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when you bring the vehicle in. We'd rather give you an honest timeline upfront than promise something we can't deliver.

If we think the repair doesn't make financial sense for your situation, we'll tell you. We'd rather be straight with you than take your money on a job that doesn't make sense.

Transmissions only. We don't do brakes, engines, tires, or general maintenance. That focus is intentional — it means every vehicle that comes through our shop is handled by people who work on transmissions every day.
